This is a combination of techniques I started using sometime between 2006 and 2009. I was running a community Jiu-jitsu program at the time and it was FULL of big guys…a lot of my normal stuff didn’t work, but I found that the 1/4 Nelson, and especially its reverse turnover worked every time they tried to base out from the initial turn.
I had picked up the Monson choke at some point in my training and during a particularly scrappy sequence with a very tough heavyweight I chained the Darce, 1/4 Nelson, Reverse Roll and Monson choke (with the added benefit of the “arm-in”) on my opponent and got a quick tap. This technique has been a staple of my game ever since, and I’d go so far as to say it’s one of my most reliable and hardest to counter techniques.
